welcome to svärmisk
At Svarmisk we have created an award winning ecologically advanced resort environment which has become a world class attraction for epicurean, leisure and sports enthusiasts
With attention to detail, Svarmisk will provide unrivalled Scandinavian inspired experiences, which will fulfil its guest's pursuit for pleasure
The site of Svärmisk, previously known as Mount Beauty Chalet, has a long history as a holiday retreat. The nature of its location is significant, not only its elevated presence above Mount Beauty township but as the gateway to Falls Creek.
Svarmisk currently offers luxury self-contained accommodation, awarded 4 1/2 stars by AAA Tourism. New to Svarmisk is Å Skafferi, translated as stream pantry that's what Svarmisk has, a produce store specializing in local produce and Swedish fare set in a rich landscape.
Svarmisk is ideally located for outdoor enthusiasts, situated a short walk from the golf course, mountain bike park and a labyrinth of walking tracks or for those who are thinking of less strenuous activities wineries, cafe's and restaurants are all with in close proximity.
environmental considerations
Prior to commencing demolition of the old 'Chalet', an arborist was contracted to complete an extensive tree assessment, and clean up and fell damaged trees. Salvaging of structural timbers, framing timber and flooring from the demolished buildings was carried out. These materials have been used in the apartments and some stored onsite awaiting reuse. Tree waste & timbers that were not salvageable were mulched and used in re-establishing gardens. This equated to more than 400 cubic meters of mulch.
All metal and plastic waste was carefully removed, some stored onsite for future use and non-reusable waste sold to salvagers. These early principles were enforced during construction with large individual recycle bins being constructed and placed on the building site, allowing for easy separation of recyclable materials.
sustainable landscape
Once building structures were removed, all hard waste i.e. bricks and concrete was sorted crushed and stored. This by-product has since been used as road base and swale lining. A nursery was established onsite. Many of the existing plants were hand dug out and relocated to the nursery prior to demolition and disturbance to the ground. These plants were propagated and still continue to be used to regenerate a once thriving landscape.
The use of water forms a key theme throughout the Landscape Masterplan. Storm water is collected for reuse and overland water is directed to a series of water bodies.
sustainable architecture
Great care was taken in the sizing and location of each individual building footprint, with an emphasis on minimizing changes to the existing terraces and reducing the need for earthworks. Orientation was extremely important to maximise solar gain and utilize the northerly valley aspects. Rainwater storage tanks are fitted to all apartments, Maximum efficiency flow regulators and water conserving fixtures, fittings and appliances will be standard.
Perched above hand stacked rock gabions is the sloping roof form, akin to A Framed style houses, renowned in the alpine region. The base structure of the apartments' varying, yet stylised design, is modelled on the existing building stock, known as the 'Mount Beauty Cubes'.
accommodation
"Functionality" was the keyword in the design brief. As Mount Beauty is an outdoor sports mecca, the accommodations design has been geared to accommodate a varied array of enthusiasts. The apartments are a combination of two and three level buildings, either freestanding or semi detached. all featuring Scandinavian styled interior and breathtaking views. The apartments feature modern furnishings and luxurious bed linen, with a fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, drying room, lockable sports equipment storage and high quality energy efficient appliances throughout. All apartments feature a full home entertainment system including sound surround as well as an open fireplace.
Lockable sports equipment storage is adjacent to the undercover car space to minimize effort involved in loading / unloading of sporting goods. The space between drying room, laundry and bathroom form the entrance zone, which is ideal for disrobing of soiled or wet attire. Beyond the entrance are the well-appointed sound insulated lower floor bedrooms. Upon arriving at the elevated open plan living area, comfort is achieved with selected timber furnishings that enhance this space. Surveying this room, it becomes apparent that the kitchen design is focused on ensuring that the cook is never left out of the entertainment. Extending beyond the dining area is outdoor living space, including a built in Scandinavian style hot tub. The 3 bedroom apartments offer a further level of luxury with a master bedroom and additional bathroom. "Freedom" is the feeling of moving from the bedroom through the robe to the spa bath, situated on the verge of the buildings envelope. The panorama absorbed during a bath will ensure the deepest of sleeps.

"Svarmisk was described by judges as “a development that had been sensitively integrated into an outstanding Alpine landscape”. “Together with its integrated passive solar and water management systems, this makes it a deserved winner in the category. Waste management and the recycling of existing materials all exist on site. Altogether it is an exceptional environmental outcome."

å skafferi
å, Swedish for stream, small river. As the internal stream meanders through Svärmisk's landscape towards the skafferi, å was a natural choice of name. Upon entering å patrons are greeted with a Delicatessen styled servery area and produce store. å's simple open space embraces Swedish style and brings it to another level. To the north is an unobtrusive deck area, flanked by dense exotic trees, this shaded area will allow vast views of the Kiewa Valley.
North East Victoria is renowned for its fresh produce, exciting wines and extensive fare. The seasonal flavours of the North East will inspire our menu, to complement the many award winning wines of the region.
bär
bär, Swedish for berries. Berries form an intricate part of the flavours from Sweden. Their sophisticated spectrum of flavour will be replicated in the vast array of our bar selection, including digestives that have been sourced from all corners of the globe. Poli Grappa, Skåne Aquavit and Williams Birne Schnapps are a small variety of the internationally inspired bar selection.
å skafferi menu
It is with great excitement that we welcome you to å skafferi (Swedish for stream & pantry) produce store, the latest addition to Svarmisk.
Skafferi features produce from local award winning producers and winemakers, complemented by a Swedish twist - herring, Swedish meatballs, lingonberries and Skane Aquavit…. We believe in fresh honest food cooked and prepared here at å skafferi, using some of the best ingredients around.
We know you will enjoy your experience at å skafferi, it’s different and it’s beautiful. Admire the architecture, smell the scent of our cooking, relax and try something different. Swedes love their schnapps and wouldn’t have herring without it…
Smaklig måltid,
Lena & Andy Mero and the team at Svarmisk
(Skafferi is a perfect venue for boutique functions. Please ask for Lena to explore options….)
